Canberra is the capital city of Australia. It was selected to be the capital of Australia in 1908 with the construction of the city beginning in 1913. It is the only city that was planned in a quadrant style in Australia and was designed by American architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin. Its current population is 381,488 and is home to many galleries and memorials such as the Australian War Memorial, and National Gallery of Australia. Since Canberra is the capital of Australia it is home to government buildings such as The Parliament House, The High Court, and The Royal Australian Mint all of which are all open to tourists.
